Kim Jung Il is a cornered animal and a cornered animal is a frightening beast. Baring his teeth, desperate to see, smell and taste the freedom that once was his to enjoy. Unlike the animals in a zoo which are fed and treated in more or less a reasonable manner where freedom is something never tasted or hinted at, the cornered animal is a loaded gun with the hammer cocked. The beast is the gun looking for the time and target on which to unleash the unholy blasphemy of tactile divine intervention.
A bullet, a bomb, a virus, a gas or just a thought, weapons are the denial of all other gods. They are the announcement that I am God. While I control my destiny, I also control yours.
As God I can build walls which prevent you from seeing, tasting, smelling and feeling the freedom that I enjoy as your deity. The walls are those of my zoo. I can see the animals. I can feed the animals. And the animals bring me a sense of joy and increase my sense of power and wonder. But when those animals fight back and attempt to scale or tear down the walls I must fight back. Because this land is mine and was promised to me. I am the messiah and this is my land. This is Israel.
Consider the scenario where I own a motorcycle, insure it, wash it, and make sure it is in perfect running order but never drive it. I have a feeling someone at sometime would mention to me how ridiculous it is. Considering the cost, the time and energy I have put into it. True, I may only be putting money into it once a year or so. And true, it would be a sense of pride for myself. I could recount stories of trips i had taken in the past, regale you with my previous escapades. But the motorcycle only serves one purpose now, something to admire. Is that enough to keep it in my garage? And to pay for on occasion?
Now consider the reality of the Monarchy. It is true that we don’t pay much for keeping her. It is true that we only pay for her expenses when she is conducting official business for Canada. But why would we need to pay for her if we have someone already representing her? If we are her country (when she is conducting official business for Canada) why wouldn’t she pay her own way? If she is ours, then why is she almost never home?
Are we sovereign? If so, why is the Head of State almost always out of state? (And, if that is the case, then can the Conservatives really criticize Ignatief?)
It is ignorant to think that the past is who we are. The past has made us who we are, but we are not our past. We can and have changed course many times. It is about time that we have differentiated ourselves from the UK and the US. We are not Americans is something many Canadians hold very dear. But we are also not Brits nor are we Britain’s.
Thank-you for the language and for the parliamentary system. I appreciate both of them. But at some point it is time for an adult to get rid of childish things. As sexy as the Queen may be, she is no motorcycle and she is as much of a waste of space in the Canadian system as a motorcycle that never gets riden.
It does not make any sense in any way, shape or form that a new citizen would have to swear an oath to the Queen when all Canadian-born citizens have no allegiance whatsoever to her.
I, [name], do Solemnly swear (affirm) that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada, Her Heirs and Successors according to law, forever. So help me God.
I have no loyalty to the Queen. What I do have is loyalty to those around me. I trust them. I rely on them. The laws which are passed, then upheld and then, possibly, contested in court are decided by people who were elected by myself and those around me. The Queen has no role whatsoever in my day-to-day life. The oath should represent the reality which Canadians live. As should our entire system.
I, [name], do Solemnly swear (affirm) that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to my friends and family, to Canadians living at home or abroad, to all those residing within Canada whether resident or alien.
Or something like that. Chew it up. Rip it apart. But come up with something better than the pithy and utterly ridiculous oath we have now.

This is Rintrah
Admission of wrong doing apparently is enough. Showing what was done is unnecessary.
In other words, admission paints a picture humility, personal strength, and accountability. But showing what was done makes the acts far too real and tarnishes the image that Obama wants to paint. As such it is unacceptable considering that the paint is still wet.

Our great economist and fearless leader is kept awake at night because of the economy? Capitalism is a vengeful mistress. I guess the Socialistic bail-outs have been making Capitalism jealous. Or maybe he feels he is being unfaithful.
But why is our perfectly quaffed and immaculate leader having difficulty finding the zeds? Is it because he has not been entirely honest with the Canadian public? A relatively mild recession should not be cause for alarm, should it?
Harper has been criticized for being overly optimistic about the economy. So why would something that is going relatively well and looking promising, despite the hardships, be keeping him up at night? He says it is because he can’t really do anything about it. But he, along with Barrack “the Untouchable” Obama, have been giving money hand over fist to the ever hungry Capitalist monster. Isn’t that enough? Apparently it is nothing because that is what Harper said he could do to fix the problem.
Re-cap: Harper is optimistic about something he can’t do anything about but can’t sleep as a result.
I was not surprized that Harper missed the photo-op at the G-20 because he was “spending a penny.” It only makes sense because Harper is full of shit.
Torture is wrong but there are circumstances where we will use information extracted using torture and situations where we will continue to work with people or countries that use torture.
In other words, we will allow others to use torture as long as it serves our desired ends. But when it is not beneficial to us, we want those terrible, despicable torture chambers shut down.
Makes sense unless you are a truly rational and reasonable person.
What is to be learned from WWII? That appeasement does not work? How about the cold war? That Mutually Assured Destruction is a valid policy? And now, how about North Korea?
We are not appeasing Mr. Kim. We are not letting him join in the MAD fun. We are insuring that North Korea constantly feels threatened. It is not for sure that he would use nukes. But the more he is provoked the more likely it is that he would use them if given the chance. He is a cornered animal.
I do not believe that violence ever solves anything. But is it possible that some of the crazies might become more sane if allowed to join the insane fun of nuclear proliferation? Is it possible that some of the despots are sociopaths as a result of how we are treating them?
I don’t believe there is comfortable solution. I also don’t believe that anyone in power has spent any real time trying to learn from the mistakes of the past. The lessons which have been learned so far are not the only lessons available, they are the easy answers which support the ideas we were already clinging to.
FREE SPEECH!! I believe in it. Using the Holocaust or the Rwandan genocide to push anti-abortion propaganda? I believe it is disgusting but it does not cross the line.
Who owns history? Who owns the rights to its interpretation and the message we must learn from it? How can we learn from history if we silence the interpreters?
Don’t blame the drugs. Everyone knows that dogs are not supposed to eat chocolate.
And where were the owners? Or did they have some cupcakes too?
Let’s go drive our cars aimlessly around the city. Let’s call it cruising. Let’s pimp out our rides with ridiculous gadgets. Let’s make lots of noise and have fun annoying everyone around us. Let’s use whatever resources we have at our disposal to make ourselves feel cool. Especially if whatever we do does not serve any real purpose.
OR
Let’s go fly our airplanes dangerously over a crowd of people. Let’s call it an airshow. Let’s ask the government for expensive planes with fancy-schmancy gadgets. Let’s make lots of noise and have fun wasting taxpayer dollars. Let’s use whatever we have at our disposal to compensate for whatever we are lacking. Especially since whatever we do does not serve any real purpose.
